2024 Annual NSFA Member Meeting to Be Held Via Zoom

June 22, 2024 @ 9AM
Via Zoom

It was with heavy hearts that we announced the cancellation of the Nevada State Firefighter’s Association’s 89th Annual Fire Training Conference, which was to be held in Lovelock, Nevada. This event, a cherished tradition for nearly nine decades, has been a cornerstone of our community, fostering camaraderie, professional development, and the exchange of invaluable skills and knowledge.

The Weight of This Decision

The decision to cancel this year’s conference was not made lightly. We understand the disappointment and frustration this news brought. For many of us, the conference is more than just an event—it’s a gathering of friends and colleagues who share a common mission. It’s a time to learn from one another, to honor our achievements, and to recommit to our vital work of protecting lives and property.

Looking Forward: Membership Meeting

Despite this setback, our commitment to the firefighter community remains unwavering. We will hold our annual membership meeting on Saturday, June 22 at 9 AM via Zoom.

Zoom Etiquette for a Smooth Meeting

To ensure our virtual meeting is productive and respectful, here are some guidelines for good Zoom etiquette:

  1. Register Early: Complete your registration as soon as possible to ensure you receive the meeting details and can address any technical issues beforehand.
  2. Be Punctual: Join the meeting a few minutes early to test your audio and video settings and to avoid disrupting the session once it has started.
  3. Mute Your Microphone: Keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking to minimize background noise and distractions.
  4. Use Video Wisely: If possible, enable your video to create a more engaging and interactive atmosphere. However, be mindful of your surroundings and ensure there is nothing inappropriate or distracting in the background.
  5. Participate Actively: Engage in discussions, ask questions, and contribute your thoughts. Use the “raise hand” feature or the chat function to avoid interrupting others.
  6. Dress Appropriately: Wear appropriate attire as you would for an in-person meeting. This helps maintain a professional atmosphere.
  7. Stay Focused: Avoid multitasking during the meeting to give your full attention to the discussions and presentations.
  8. Technical Preparedness: Ensure you have a stable internet connection and that your device is charged or plugged in to avoid interruptions.

Moving Forward Together

While we will miss the invaluable in-person interactions and the rich experiences of our annual conference, we are confident that our virtual meeting will be a meaningful opportunity to connect and collaborate. Let us use this time to strengthen our bonds and prepare for a brighter, safer future.

Thank you for your understanding and continued dedication. We look forward to seeing you on Zoom and working together to overcome the challenges ahead.

Stay safe, stay strong.

With deep appreciation,
The Nevada State Firefighter’s Association

Please feel free to share this message with fellow NSFA Members. Together, we will navigate these challenging times and emerge stronger and more united than ever.

Important Announcement regarding Conference

After much consideration and discussion with the host city, it is with great disappointment that we will not be able to proceed with the 89th Annual NSFA Training conference in Lovelock this year. Due to very low registrations and our valued partnerships with our vendors and the Nevada State Fire Marshal Training Division, it was decided that it would be fiscally irresponsible to utilize vendor, state training budget and NSFA funds to put on this event. We will still hold our annual business meeting onSaturday June 22 @ 0900 at the Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department (a zoom link will be sent out soon). We will concentrate our efforts to make the 2025 conference June 18-21 in Fallon the best conference ever as well as putting our legislative package together for the session next year as we are developing potential benefits for volunteers in Nevada. Refunds will be available from Lovelock as they are working on that already. Again, this was a tough decision that was made in the best interest of all involved. We wish LVFD continued success and congratulate them as the celebrate their 100th Anniversary of the fire department.

NSFA Training Classes @ 89th Annual Conference

Seconds FLAT

This is a H.O.T (hands on training) where our instructors showcase the extreme ease and versatility of flat load hose deployment.

If your department is currently using the flat load or you are interested in exploring the option and simplicity of this versatile load, this class is for you. The H&H cadre will systematically break down the flat load and its deployment options in a way that is not only user friendly but undeniable in its practical application potential.

Attendees will start their day with a mission and goal focused lecture and then transition to the training grounds where they will receive as many hose pulls as time permits accompanied by cadre demonstration and coaching.

The 5 Rights of the First Line

This is a 90-minute lecture/presentation based on a recently published article written by our cadre.

When the air break hits, we, as first due firefighters, have decisions to make, and we need to make them NOW! Are you making the right decision when it comes to hand-line selection and deployment?

5 Rights of the First Line is a class that helps break down that selection process for first due firefighters. This class will help solidify the current framework of this decision making process for even the most experienced firefighter. Stop wasting time, make a call faster by decreasing your cognitive load through systematic steps that are straightforward, and applicable at any fire.
